AGE CONCERN BRENT

Age Concern Brent is an independent registered charity which benefits from membership of Age Concern Federation. Our Aim is to promote the well-being of older residents in Brent and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

Age Concern Brent offers a range of services and projects to support, inform, advice and inspire older people.

Last year Age Concern Brent celebrated 25th Anniversary, we had an event
at Brent Town Hall on the 29th May and the key theme for the event was for
Older People to celebrate Diversity in Brent and Age Concern Brent's
achievements over the last 25 years.

It was an opportunity for us to acknowledge key members in the community
and Age Concern Brent presented 16 awards to invididuals who have made an
outstanding commitment to older residents of Brent.  We enjoyed diverse
forms of entertainment (that included Greek Dancing, Japanese Choir and
Indian Dancing).  We were pleased to have support from The Mayor of
Brent. The leader of the Council, the 3 MPs of the Borough who all spoke at the event together with Martin Cheeseman, Director of Housing and Community Care.  We were delighted to celebrate the event with our members,
service users, community organisations, funders and the most valuable
volunteers.

The event also provided an opportunity for one of our service user (Ruby
Martins) who spoke about how the Be-friending service supports her and
from Siggy Mitchell and Katy Randhawa who carry out volunteering for the
organisation and together with 2 organisations who spoke about the
Benefits of Partnership working which is very much the way forward.

Age Concern Brent also launched the Keep In Touch In Brent - a
befriending service and support with small tasks, our website, Fit as a Fiddle
Project and the Emunity Project that aims to train older people with Computer
Skills. We are very keen to appoint "Champions for Older People" (Voices of
Experience)and develope a solid structure and a platform for older
people from all diverse backgrounds to be active in the service planning and
delivery of the local services.

The event was an opportunity to reflect on how we started, acknowledge
the key people who have contributed, celebrate our achievements and talk
about the future.  We look forward to being one of  the Mayor's Charity this
year and our key message is to "Ensure that the services provided are of a
high standard and that elderly people in residential home, living on their
own are treated with dignity and respect".
